Discussion of testing from c476 edublog.

Security:
WHAT?- Security is simply keeping the users accessing and chaning only what they should access, and disallow them to access information that they shouldn’t.

WHY?- Users expect that information they provide is kept in confidence between the two parties. This information, stored or transmitted could be dangerous in the wrong hands, especially if the site contains personal information, passwords, or credit card numbers. In addition to that, its also essential to ensure that the site itself, the pages and all the associates files cannot be tampered with, and to help minimise the potential for unwanted server down-time and major security issues.

HOW?- The company could employ a ‘tiger team’, which in this scenario is a nickname for a team of experienced computer hackers that have been employed the sole purpose of breaking into the server, and then listing the faults or weaknesses so the designer can amend them.

RESOURCES- The term ‘tiger team’, although it primarily refers to the military term, was discovered on Wikipedia’s several months ago. The remainder of the material was obtained by previous knowledge.

Usability:
WHAT?- Usability is allowing the users to easily access and navigate the site without problems.

WHY?- The easier the site is to access by any user, the more the user would be comofortable with the site. If the site is difficult to access sections, the user may simply cut their losses and try another website, and potentially give the site a negative view to friends and family.

HOW?- The best way to test a sites usability is during the testing phase, is to allow a select few third-parties to view the site. The users who view the site, can then provide their opinions and suggestions to improve the ease of use, and bring to attention any difficult sections. A questionaire could be made for the tester to fill out whilst viewing the site, asking questions about consistent look etc.
